At the General Election in Stockport on 5th May 2005, 35771 votes were cast (approximately 55% of the total number of eligible voters) with the following result:

Elizabeth Berridge (Conservative): 8906 votes (-1%).

Lyn-Su Floodgate (Liberal Democrats): 7832 votes (+6.4%).

Richard Simpson (UK Independence Party): 964 votes (+2.7%).
