Hawthorne door
Daniel Hawthorne was elected in 2010 and 2014 by Manor residents to the local Council

Councillor Daniel Hawthorne has been selected by local members of the Liberal Democrats to be the Lib Dem candidate for the General Election in the Stockport constituency.

Daniel was born, bred and raised in the Stockport constituency. He grew up in Heaton Norris and now lives in the area he represents as an elected Councillor, in the Manor Ward, situated just outside of Stockport Town Centre, in Offerton.

Daniel was educated at local Stockport schools, completed his A-Levels at Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College and gained degrees from the University of Liverpool and the University of Manchester before going into a career in housing.  He helps social tenants as part of his current role working for a housing association, using the experience he gained working as a personal assistant for an autistic child and then as a front-line homelessness officer.

In 2010 Daniel was elected to serve as a local Councillor for the Manor ward in Stockport and was re-elected in 2014 with a 6% majority over his Labour counterpart, far ahead of the UKIP and Conservative candidates who finished in distant third and fourth place.

While on the Council, Daniel has served on the Executive and as a vice chair of a scrutiny committee. He campaigns hard for investing in Stockport to help boost jobs and growth in the borough and in his ward. He is known as a local champion who works hard to represent Manor residents at the Town Hall.

Outside of politics Daniel is a volunteer school governor at two Stockport schools, and keeps fit by playing football at which he once played at a semi-professional level.  A knee injury curtailed his role as a ‘midfield general’ and these days he is more likely to be seen running in one of his local parks, such as St Thomas or Woodbank.

He wants Stockport to be a vibrant, cosmopolitan place to live in and believes that the people representing our town should have an ambitious vision for its future.
